Front desks at several Community Health Assist Scheme general practitioners told patients this week that same-day slots vanish quickly in mature estates, while polyclinics absorb overflow with longer queues.
What MOH says versus clinic shelves
MOH’s 4 September advisory frames the season as a scheduling puzzle: take the 2026 SH dose now if you are in a recommended group and have not been vaccinated, but plan for the delayed 2026–2027 NH vaccine in early to mid-October with at least eight weeks between jabs. The Communicable Diseases Agency noted on 1 September that influenza activity has risen again without signs of unusual severity.
CNA reported that some clinic groups had run down SH stock while awaiting NH shipments, and that operators were rescheduling NH appointments. Healthway Medical, with more than 60 GP clinics, said demand jumped after the National Day long weekend and expects NH vials by mid-October—a timeline MOH also published.
Who feels the squeeze
Recommended groups—adults 65 and older, young children, pregnant women, and patients with qualifying conditions—face the tightest windows. Healthier SG-enrolled seniors can receive fully subsidised shots at enrolled clinics only when vials and calendar space align. Retail pharmacies vaccinate eligible adults 18 and above, but paediatric formulations are not universal.
Operators emphasise redistribution rather than outright shortage: Parkway Shenton and Raffles Medical said supplies could stretch if demand spikes further; none disputed MOH’s claim that vaccines exist somewhere in the chain—the complaint is hyper-local allocation to high-volume GPs.
MOH asked polyclinics and CHAS clinics to reach out to patients who booked NH appointments early so slots can move to mid-October without no-shows. Affected patients who have not been contacted should call their clinic rather than double-book on vaccine.gov.sg, which can leave duplicate holds that make patchy availability look worse online than on clinic fridges.
How to plan this week
If you are 65 or older and unvaccinated for 2026 SH, widen your clinic search radius and ask whether vials are on hand—not merely whether the clinic participates. If you already took SH, do not chase a second SH dose; pencil in NH for mid-October and bring prior records so clinicians enforce the eight-week gap. MOH asked polyclinics and CHAS clinics to contact patients with NH bookings to reschedule; if you booked and have not heard back, call rather than assume cancellation.
