ASUS opened an expanded domestic repair lane for its ROG gaming phones at a Taoyuan service hub, promising same-day motherboard swaps for qualifying models as competitive esports leagues resume after the summer break.

The Taoyuan facility, located near Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, now stocks spare AMOLED assemblies, vapor-chamber cooling modules, and joystick sensors for the latest ROG Phone generation, according to a company statement Tuesday. Customers who book morning appointments can pick up repaired units by evening if parts are in inventory.

Why local repair matters

Gaming handsets stress solder joints and batteries faster than typical smartphones because users run sustained 120-hertz gameplay sessions. Mail-in programs that route devices through overseas centers can leave Taiwan-based streamers without hardware for a week, a costly gap during league qualifiers.

ASUS service director Lin Mei-hua said the hub will also calibrate shoulder triggers and refresh thermal paste using factory-specified torque settings. Technicians must pass a company certification that includes electrostatic discharge drills, she added.

Supply chain footprint

Most ROG phones are assembled in Taiwan and Southeast Asia, but warranty economics still favor centralized repair when volumes were smaller. Rising domestic sales during the AI PC boom convinced management to localize more complex board-level work, Lin said.

Independent repair shops welcomed the move cautiously. The Taiwan Repair Association said access to genuine boards remains limited to authorized partners, meaning mom-and-pop stores will still handle simpler jobs such as battery replacements using aftermarket cells.

Consumer expectations

ASUS published a fee schedule showing that out-of-warranty swaps cost less than buying a new flagship if the chassis and display remain intact. Insurance partners are exploring rider policies for tournament players, though none have launched publicly yet.

For ASUS, the hub is both a service play and a brand statement: gamers who compete on global streams expect hardware vendors to treat Taiwan as a primary market, not an afterthought in a global RMA queue.

Local context

Esports teams sponsored by local retailers said faster RMA turnaround reduces the need to keep spare phones in team vans.

Officials said they will publish another update after the Double Ten holiday, when agencies return to normal staffing and contractors can resume noisy work without conflicting with downtown ceremonies. Residents can sign up for text alerts through city portals if they want construction or traffic notices pushed to their phones.
