Union Bank of Taiwan opened its fourth-quarter “Subscription Lifestyle” campaign on Oct. 1, offering registered credit-card holders up to 10 percent cashback on digital streaming and software bills as households stack entertainment charges ahead of the Double Ten holiday.
The program runs through Dec. 31 and covers major video and music platforms—including Netflix, Disney+, Spotify and KKBOX—as well as game subscriptions such as PlayStation Plus and Nintendo Switch Online. Artificial-intelligence tools including ChatGPT, Claude and Notion also qualify when billed in New Taiwan dollars to a Union Bank card.
How the tiers work
Cardholders who complete online registration receive 5 percent cashback on any eligible subscription charge, capped at NT$100 per month. Spending that posts with a merchant category code matching the bank’s streaming list can earn 10 percent instead, capped at NT$200 per month. The bank said caps are evaluated per billing cycle and credited the month after qualifying charges appear on statements.
Registration windows open on the 20th of each month at 3 p.m. until capacity is reached. October’s allotment allows 5,000 sign-ups, with 3,000 slots reserved for November and 2,000 for December. Union Bank warns that charges must show recognizable merchant names on statements; third-party resellers or wallet top-ups may be excluded.
Holiday overlap with mall promos
The subscription push runs alongside separate Union Bank campaigns for Shopee’s 10.10 sale and momo’s anniversary event, where installment thresholds unlock lump-sum statement credits. Card analysts said households chasing multiple rebates should track registration deadlines carefully because the bank applies a once-per-month “best offer” rule across overlapping travel and e-commerce promos.
For travelers, Union Bank’s parallel “Easy World” program offers tiered statement credits on airline, hotel and tour-agency spend between NT$20,000 and NT$200,000 per month, plus NT$150 bonuses for every NT$15,000 converted to installments. Combined with streaming rebates, a family could offset part of a long-weekend trip and winter subscription renewals—if they log enrollments before quotas close.
What to watch on statements
General-purpose cards carry annual percentage rates between 8 percent and 15 percent depending on risk grades, according to bank disclosures. Cash-advance and revolving balances remain expensive, so advisers recommend paying subscription charges in full even when chasing cashback. Union Bank posts promotion terms in Traditional Chinese on its activity portal; English-speaking cardholders can confirm eligibility through the service line before charging overseas vendors.
With inflation-sensitive households trimming discretionary purchases, issuers are competing aggressively on recurring digital bills. Union Bank’s 10 percent streaming tier is among the richer public offers this quarter, though caps mean heavy users will still see most charges unrebated once they exceed NT$2,000 in eligible spend.
