Samsung Card opened an October window that promises 210,000 won in cashback for holders of its iD SELECT ON or iD SELECT ALL twins cards, but the fine print shows the bank is chasing dormant users rather than rewarding existing heavy spenders.

To qualify, applicants must enroll between October 8 and October 31, hold one of the twin products, and charge at least 300,000 won in domestic or overseas purchases between October 1 and November 30. Samsung Card credits the cashback around December 16 through the statement cycle.

Who is excluded

The promotion requires no Samsung personal credit card spending or cancellation between April 1 and September 30. That six-month dormancy test mirrors rival issuers' autumn campaigns and effectively blocks anyone who kept a Samsung card active through the summer travel season.

Cardholders who received any Samsung auto-finance promotion between April 1 and payout day are also ineligible, covering direct auto installment and used-car products. Samsung Card states the offer cannot stack with other new-member fee rebates or duplicate twin-card events.

Everyday economics

The twin cards advertise up to 1.3 percent discounts on general retail spend with monthly caps. For a household routing utilities and groceries through the card, the 300,000 won hurdle is reachable in six weeks, but the net benefit after annual fees depends on whether the holder would have returned to Samsung anyway.

Competing issuers are running parallel autumn cashbacks: Shinhan Card's SOL Plan+ line offers 50,000 won after 50,000 won of spend for Super SOL sign-ups, while KB Card tied fee rebates to six-figure spending thresholds last month. For consumers, the practical task is to match enrollment channels—Samsung's event requires completing its online application form before spending counts.

What to watch

Finance-sector data leaks earlier this month pushed issuers to pair marketing pushes with security alerts. Samsung Card has not altered this cashback timeline, but customer service lines are warning applicants to verify SMS links before entering card numbers. Missing the enrollment step, even with enough spend, voids the payout.

Regulatory backdrop

The Financial Services Commission reminded issuers this month that marketing cashbacks must disclose tax treatment and clawback rules when customers cancel cards before payouts settle. Samsung's terms state benefits may be reversed if marketing consent lapses before December crediting.
