Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd refreshed lifestyle benefits on its White Reserve metal credit card this week, doubling the number of complimentary nine-hole rounds cardholders can book at participating courses in India through 31 December, according to terms published on the lender’s card portal.
What changed for cardmembers
Platinum-tier White Reserve customers could previously access a limited roster of weekend tee times in major metros. The updated benefit map adds courses in Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Kochi, along with extra slots at existing partners in the National Capital Region and Mumbai, the bank’s marketing sheet shows.
Bookings must be made through Kotak’s concierge app at least 72 hours in advance, and green fees for caddies or cart rentals remain the cardholder’s responsibility. The perk is capped at four complimentary rounds per billing cycle, up from two, and cannot be converted to statement credit.
Why banks push experiential perks now
Indian issuers are competing for high-spending customers ahead of the festive quarter, when travel and entertainment outlays typically spike. Golf access is a niche but sticky benefit for a segment that also drives foreign-exchange and lounge usage on premium cards.
The Reserve Bank of India’s latest bulletin shows unsecured credit growth still outpacing deposits, putting pressure on lenders to differentiate without loosening underwriting. Lifestyle bundles let banks market “soft” value while keeping reward point liabilities contained.
Fine print cardholders miss
White Reserve’s annual fee waiver still depends on ₹10 lakh of retail spends in the membership year. Golf rounds do not count toward that threshold. Missed tee times without 48-hour cancellation forfeit the slot for the cycle.
Cardmembers who stack Kotak’s White Reserve with partner hotel programs should watch foreign markup fees on international greens fees; the domestic benefit does not extend to courses outside India.
Competitive context
HDFC Bank Ltd’s Diners Club Black and Axis Bank Ltd’s Magnus variants have leaned on lounge and milestone rewards rather than sports access. Kotak’s move signals a push to keep platinum customers engaged after several issuers trimmed airport transfer benefits earlier this year.
For households budgeting Diwali travel, a golf perk is irrelevant; for corporate sales teams entertaining clients on fairways, it is a tangible upgrade. The bank’s bet is that experiential hooks reduce churn among its highest-fee payers without broadening riskier credit lines.
Relationship managers began emailing eligible cardholders on 14 October with a QR-linked booking portal that shows real-time tee-sheet availability. Rounds booked before 31 December must be played by 15 January 2027 or they expire without rollover.
