Bollywood’s Dussehra weekend opens with a three-film Hindi cluster—Nayyi Navelli, Prahaar and Raftaar—competing for single-screen and multiplex shows after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 absorbed Tamil Nadu footfalls on Thursday.

Nayyi Navelli’s Meerut hook

Colour Yellow Productions and Amazon MGM Studios are positioning Nayyi Navelli as a fantasy horror comedy set in Meerut, where Yami Gautam plays a newlywed rumored to be a daayan inside her in-laws’ household. Director Aditya Dhar’s marketing leaned on regional dialect humor for Uttar Pradesh circuits rather than metro multiplexes alone.

Early bookings on major chains showed strongest occupancy in the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh, territories where Meerut references travel. Critics previewing on 15 October praised production design but questioned whether the horror beats land outside north India.

Prahaar and Raftaar share the marquee

Maddock Films’ Prahaar, starring Rajkummar Rao in a military courtroom drama, targets audiences still talking about war biopics after a strong year for patriotic themes. Rao’s Raftaar pairs him with Keerthy Suresh in a romance pitched to family audiences seeking lighter fare after weeks of political news dominating television.

Exhibitors said they allocated extra late-night shows only where air-conditioning upgrades were completed after September heatwaves; otherwise, Dussehra holidays favor matinee slots for family bundles.

Box-office context

Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion continues to earn in week three, meaning new releases must fight for screens in tier-two cities where the thriller still holds prints. Trade trackers expect Nayyi Navelli to depend on word of mouth from UP towns, while Prahaar chases urban centers with premium formats.

Streaming platforms have not announced day-and-date drops for any of the three Hindi titles, keeping theatrical windows intact for at least two weeks—a relief for exhibitors who lost share to simultaneous OTT releases in early 2026.

What to watch

Friday night occupancy reports from chains such as PVR INOX and Cinepolis will show whether horror or romance won the holiday lottery. If Nayyi Navelli over-indexes in Meerut and Ghaziabad, producers may extend UP marketing into the Diwali week; if Prahaar leads metros, Maddock could fast-track a streaming deal for overseas military audiences.

Producer Aanand L Rai told trade press that Meerut location shoots wrapped in eighteen days, relying on local extras for wedding sequences. Radio stations in Lucknow began spinning a recreated folk chorus from the soundtrack on Dussehra morning.
