Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt on Sunday evening after three men on a motorcycle fired seven rounds at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood, police said. His driver, identified as Firdosh, was shot in the left hand and taken to Nanavati Hospital, while a bystander who had come to see the actor was also wounded and admitted to Cooper Hospital. The attack unfolded around 7 p.m. as Shroff left a birthday event at Pushpa Park, also known as Jamnabai Nursery, about 350 metres from Juhu police station.
Mumbai Police registered a case and deployed 15 teams from the local station and the crime branch to trace the assailants, who were described as wearing white shirts and fleeing toward SV Road and Vile Parle railway station. Forensic officers collected ballistic evidence at the scene on Sunday night. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to the police commissioner and ordered a swift investigation with strict action against those responsible, his office said.
What police have confirmed so far
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg, who oversees the western zone, said Shroff was not injured despite early reports that flying glass had grazed him. Police were reviewing CCTV along the escape route and asking Shroff whether he had received recent threats. Officers detained one person for questioning but had not publicly named suspects by late Sunday.
Investigators are also examining an unverified social media claim in which individuals identifying themselves as Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu said they carried out the shooting and linked it to Shroff’s professional association with Salman Khan. Rumours connected the post to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which police have not authenticated. The same network has claimed responsibility for prior shootings targeting figures in Mumbai’s film industry, including an attack on filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s home earlier this year and threats against other stars.
A pattern of industry-linked violence
Sunday’s gunfire is the latest in a string of high-profile security incidents involving Bollywood and politics in Maharashtra. In October 2024, former state minister Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son’s office in Bandra. Mumbai Crime Branch later tied other shootings to organised groups with logistics cells in Pune and northern states, sometimes coordinating with task forces in Uttar Pradesh.
Shroff, known for action roles and martial-arts training, had attended the Juhu gathering before moving toward his vehicle when the attackers opened fire. Witness video circulating online captured rapid shots amid shouts; police have not released official footage. The actor’s team has not issued a detailed statement beyond cooperating with investigators.
What happens next in Mumbai
Crime branch officers will attempt to match recovered shells to prior cases and to determine whether the motorcycle was stolen or rented. Hospital officials described Firdosh’s injury as serious but said he was receiving treatment; the injured bystander’s condition was stable. Police urged anyone with dashcam or mobile video from the Pushpa Park area to come forward.
For Mumbai residents, the episode revives questions about how gunmen can strike in a dense, policed suburb and vanish toward major rail lines. Until arrests are made and any gang claim is verified, the case will be watched both as a celebrity security story and as another test of whether Maharashtra can curb reprisal shootings that spill from long-running feuds into public streets.
