SBI Card holders shopping Amazon’s Great Indian Festival can still claim instant discounts of up to 10 percent on eligible baskets until 23:59 on 20 October, but the bank’s terms exclude RuPay credit cards used through the Unified Payments Interface, a detail that matters as more shoppers try to combine festive offers with UPI checkout habits.

How the tiers work

According to the offer page published by SBI Cards and Payment Services Ltd., the promotion runs from 8 October through 20 October on Amazon’s website and apps. Most SBI and Tata credit cards qualify, but corporate cards, Paytm co-brand cards, Flipkart co-brand cards and the Cashback SBI card are out of scope.

For mobile phones, the minimum transaction is Rs 4,990. Between 12 and 20 October the maximum instant discount per card is Rs 750 on non-EMI orders, with higher caps earlier in the sale window. Other categories require at least Rs 2,490 and carry a Rs 1,250 cap in the final phase.

Stackable extras and EMI paths

SBI Card lists additional flat rebates for large tickets: Rs 250 off on single purchases of Rs 14,990 or more, Rs 5,000 off non-EMI baskets above Rs 99,990, and separate EMI-linked discounts on six-month and nine-month plans for the same Rs 99,990 threshold. Each sweetener carries its own cap and cannot be assumed to combine unless the product page flags eligibility.

Personal finance desks note that the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank card still offers 5 percent unlimited cashback on Amazon for many users, while Flipkart’s Axis Bank card remains the reference offer on the rival Big Billion Days sale. Choosing between instant bank discounts and ongoing cashback requires matching your typical ticket size to the cap structure, not just the headline percentage.

The RuPay-on-UPI wrinkle

India’s card networks have pushed RuPay credit linking on UPI as a way to earn rewards on merchant QR payments. SBI Card’s Amazon fine print states explicitly that RuPay credit transactions routed via UPI do not qualify for this Diwali campaign, pushing those customers back to traditional card entry at checkout.

That exclusion interacts with NPCI’s wider push to standardise RuPay credit on UPI and with HDFC Bank and other issuers running separate festive POS campaigns. Shoppers who default to UPI for speed may miss the instant markdown unless they switch to card mode before paying.

Practical checklist before checkout

Verify the product page’s “offer” badge, confirm your card variant is not on the exclusion list, and compare the instant discount cap with what cashback cards would return on the same amount. Pay the statement balance on time: a 10 percent upfront saving disappears quickly if revolving interest kicks in on the remainder.

With the offer ending on 20 October, last-minute Diwali phone upgrades will dominate volume over the next 48 hours, making it worth watching whether Amazon extends bank partnerships into the broader gift category once the headline discount window shuts.
