Hon Hai Precision Industry’s FIIBoost subsidiary secured a multi-year contract to assemble Google edge-compute racks at its Pingtung campus, people familiar with the award said, marking the first time the search giant has sourced that chassis design from a Taiwan site outside Taoyuan.

What FIIBoost will build

The deal covers two rack generations with direct liquid cooling loops and hot-swappable power shelves validated for tropical humidity. FIIBoost will begin pilot builds in November and target 1,200 shipped cabinets in 2027, with options for a second line if Google expands edge nodes in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur.

Pingtung County officials said the project could add 420 skilled jobs, mostly cable harness technicians and burn-in engineers. Hon Hai declined to disclose contract value but said capital spending for test jigs would land in the current fiscal year.

Why Pingtung won the work

Google had previously qualified racks through a Mexican partner; supply-chain managers shifted volume to Taiwan after shipping delays on Pacific routes and to co-locate with Hon Hai’s GPU server lines in the north. FIIBoost pitched shorter truck hauls to Kaohsiung port for Southeast Asia deliveries.

Chun-Hao Chang, InfoHandle’s technology correspondent, said edge racks differ from hyperscale AI cabinets: they prioritize quick field service and tamper-evident seals over maximum watt density. The Pingtung line already builds telecom base-station enclosures, giving workers experience with outdoor-rated fasteners.

Power and water questions

Environmental groups asked whether liquid-coolant discharge permits cover higher night-shift volumes. The county environmental bureau said FIIBoost filed an amended wastewater plan and will recycle glycol on site.

Google Cloud spokespeople confirmed the partnership in a brief statement, emphasizing supplier code-of-conduct audits scheduled for December. Competitors including Quanta and Wistron said they continue to bid on other Google infrastructure tiers.

Timeline for customers

Enterprise buyers in Taiwan should not expect shorter lead times immediately; initial units are earmarked for Google’s own edge expansions. Hon Hai executives told investors the contract diversifies FIIBoost away from smartphone fixture tooling, which has slowed as handset refresh cycles lengthen.
