Micron Taiwan managers tabled a revised tiered bonus framework to union negotiators in Taoyuan on Wednesday morning, keeping a Thursday strike-authorization vote on the calendar while offering front-line operators a larger share of the fiscal 2026 profit pool than the package workers rejected last week.

What changed in the offer

The company said the new tables would lift average variable pay for DRAM assembly technicians by 8.4 percent versus its prior proposal, with additional retention grants tied to on-time completion of a clean-room expansion wing scheduled to open in December. Night-shift maintenance crews would receive a flat NT$6,000 quarterly top-up if they complete certified safety refreshers, a detail absent from earlier slides union stewards circulated.

Union leaders called the session constructive but told members the ballot would remain open until midnight, citing unresolved questions on how overtime during typhoon-related shift swaps would count toward bonus eligibility. Negotiators asked Micron to publish a worked example for a technician who logged 16 hours of storm coverage during Typhoon Champi’s outer rain bands.

Why suppliers are watching

Suppliers along the Hsinchu-Taoyuan corridor watched the talks closely because a walkout would idle wafer input lines that feed packaging tools Micron shares with several domestic subcontractors. Two module assemblers told InfoHandle they had not received force-majeure notices and were assuming normal output through the week, but they began shifting finished goods to bonded warehouses in case truck access near the fabs tightens.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs said it was monitoring inventory buffers but had not invoked contingency powers. Analysts at Yuanta Securities estimated a one-week stoppage could trim Micron Taiwan revenue by NT$1.2 billion, a figure the company declined to confirm on Wednesday.

The dispute behind the ballot

Workers who spoke outside the Taoyuan plant gate said the core dispute was not base wages, which track industry surveys, but transparency on how Micron allocates profit-sharing when parent-company earnings swing with memory pricing. Micron Taiwan reiterated that global DRAM pricing remains volatile and that bonus pools must reflect audited results rather than spot contract spikes.

The union scheduled a member assembly for Wednesday evening to walk through spreadsheet models comparing the old and new tiers. If members reject the offer, the authorized strike could begin Friday on the first shift, though negotiators on both sides left room for a second mediation session Thursday.

City and market reaction

The Taoyuan City Labor Affairs Department said it would station observers near the plant if picket lines form, emphasizing that safety systems in the fabs must remain staffed even during work stoppages. Micron shares on the TAIEX rose 1.1 percent in morning trade, suggesting investors were betting on a settlement before packaging bottlenecks affect fourth-quarter shipments.

Customers including server builders in Taoyuan said they had not received shipment delays on high-bandwidth memory stacks used in AI racks. Micron’s statement noted that any strike would not affect fabs under separate legal entities, a distinction union lawyers said they would challenge if managers attempt to move work across corporate lines without bargaining.
