The role
Your Daily Update is InfoHandle’s morning briefing—not a dump of every URL we published. It needs an editor in San Francisco who will fight for a tight list, write a dek that is not a headline reprint, and treat the archive as a product. You will work with correspondents and the senior editor. You will not be asked to juice traffic with a misleading subject line.
What you will do
- Plan and edit each edition of Your Daily Update: headline, summary, clusters, and the brief that sits on top.
- Sit the morning meeting and argue, specifically, for what belongs in the briefing and what does not.
- Track what readers actually open and finish, then change the format when the evidence says so—not when a vendor deck says so.
- Maintain the archive so older editions remain readable and correctly linked.
- Coordinate with the publishing engineer on how editions are built and shipped.
- Write the occasional note to readers when we get something wrong in the briefing.
What you bring
- Five or more years in newsletters, homepage editing, or audience at a news organization.
- A public archive of briefings or homepages you edited, and a sentence about what you would still change.
- The judgment to summarize reporting you did not file without flattening the sourcing.
- Ability to work early Pacific hours in the San Francisco newsroom, Monday through Thursday. The briefing ships in the morning.
- Authorization to work in the United States. We cannot sponsor a visa for this role.
Helpful, not required
- Experience with a static or lightly staffed publishing stack, not only a big-CMS homepage tool.
- Comfort reading analytics without turning every decision into a chart.
Pay and benefits
California requires a pay range on this posting. For this role in San Francisco, base pay is $90,000–$120,000 a year. The offer depends on experience and the scope of the work.
Full-time roles also include:
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with InfoHandle covering the majority of the employee premium
- A 401(k) with a 3% match after 90 days
- Commuter benefits for Muni, BART, Caltrain, and ferry
- Fifteen days of paid time off in the first year, plus paid California holidays and a newsroom shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s
- Paid parental leave
- A $1,000 annual professional-development stipend (conferences, language study, or a reporting trip your editor signs off on)
