The role
InfoHandle pays interns. The fall seat runs sixteen weeks, three days a week in the newsroom (Tuesday through Thursday), and reports to the senior editor. You will sit in the morning meeting, work the assistant desk, and—when copy is ready and an editor has time—take a short byline. This is not a content-farm internship and it is not unpaid “for credit only.”
What you will do
- Support the news assistant and copy desk with research, transcripts, and link checks.
- Track public calendars: City Hall, state agencies, and the companies our technology and business desks follow.
- Draft short items for editors; rewrite until the sourcing is on the page.
- Attend the morning meeting and file a same-day note on what moved.
- Help the visual editor confirm captions, credits, and alt text on assigned stories.
What you bring
- Current undergraduate, graduate, or recent graduate (degree conferred in 2025 or 2026).
- At least one term on a campus paper, magazine, radio/TV shop, or equivalent professional internship.
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in San Francisco, roughly 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific, September 28, 2026 through January 15, 2027.
- Authorization to work in the United States. We cannot sponsor a visa for this internship.
Helpful, not required
- A class in media law, statistics, or a subject that matches one of our desks.
- A California driver’s license if you want to take the occasional assignment outside the office.
Pay and benefits
California requires a pay range on this posting. For this role in San Francisco, base pay is $28 per hour.
This internship is paid hourly. Interns accrue sick leave as California law requires. The professional development stipend and 401(k) match do not apply to this seat.
