The role
InfoHandle.net is a statically generated Next.js site. Stories, correspondents, and Your Daily Update are structured files the newsroom can ship without a heavy CMS. We need an engineer in San Francisco who will treat publishing as a deadline system: builds, previews, image handling, sitemaps, and the boring reliability that means a 6 a.m. briefing actually went out. You will sit near editors. When something breaks at publish, you will hear about it in person.
What you will do
- Own the publishing stack: Next.js, static export, preview, and the path from a signed-off story to a live URL.
- Maintain the Daily Update pipeline so editions build, archive, and RSS without hand-edits in five places.
- Harden image handling, credits, and alt text so the visual editor’s rules are enforceable in the system, not only in a doc.
- Keep sitemaps, metadata, and feed output accurate as the archive grows.
- Improve authoring tools for non-engineers without inventing a CMS we do not need.
- Watch performance, uptime, and the boring logs. We do not run a comments board or user accounts; keep it that way unless editorial asks.
What you bring
- Five or more years building production web applications, including substantial TypeScript and React.
- Experience with Next.js or a comparable static/hybrid publishing stack, and with CI that non-engineers depend on.
- The temperament to work with reporters: they will file late, they will need a preview, and they will not read a 12-page RFC.
- Ability to work Pacific hours in the San Francisco newsroom, Monday through Thursday, with on-call for publish failures.
- Authorization to work in the United States. We cannot sponsor a visa for this role.
Helpful, not required
- Prior work on a news site, documentation site, or other content-heavy static property.
- Experience with image pipelines, RSS, or structured metadata (Open Graph, JSON-LD).
Pay and benefits
California requires a pay range on this posting. For this role in San Francisco, base pay is $155,000–$195,000 a year. The offer depends on experience and the scope of the work.
Full-time roles also include:
