Live-music ticket sales surged past 493,000 admissions nationwide during the week of September 28 to October 4, and more than 75,000 of those seats were tied to two headline festivals that ran through the early-October holiday, according to performance-market data compiled in Seoul.
The Busan International Rock Festival sold 40,066 tickets across four sessions at Samnak Ecological Park, while EDC Korea drew 35,551 attendees over two nights at Inspire Entertainment Resort west of Seoul. Together they accounted for roughly 15 percent of all performance tickets sold that week.
Broader lineup
The same holiday window included &TEAM's encore concerts at Olympic Park with 13,538 tickets, D.O.'s three-night run at KINTEX with 12,428, and the Gangnam Festival street concert with 11,690 admissions. Musicals such as Dracula at LG Arts Center Seoul added another 11,820 seats as families mixed indoor shows with outdoor events.
Analysts noted that 75.7 percent of weekly sales occurred in the capital region, but Busan's rock festival demonstrated that multi-day camping formats still pull intercity travel despite haze concerns earlier in the week.
Cinema crossover
Separately, K-pop theatrical releases have crossed 140,000 admissions this year, led by TWS's VR concert film. Festival promoters said they monitor cinema grosses because hybrid fans often attend both arena shows and limited-screening events during the same vacation.
What promoters watch next
October schedules stay crowded with KBO postseason openers and Hyundai Card's Super Concert series after The Weeknd's Goyang shows. Ticketing platforms warned buyers to use official resale channels after bogus messages sites mimicked rock festival branding. For city tourism boards, the holiday proved that outdoor music can still sell out even when air-quality apps flash yellow readings.
City logistics
Busan Metro added late trains on rock festival nights, while Inspire Resort routed shuttle buses from Incheon Airport for EDC attendees. Hotel occupancy in Haeundae rose 12 percent year on year for the first weekend of October, according to municipal tourism dashboards, even as fine-dust readings prompted some outdoor vendors to hand out masks.
